“Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy.”
(Sing along with me.)
“But here’s my number, so call me, maybe?”
At this point, we all know the lyrics to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” -- whether we want to or not. The pop song is one of the biggest hits of 2012 and reached number one not only here in the U.S., but also in Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The song’s music video has been viewed 170,680,262 times and parodied by the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and other well-known artists; as well as the Harvard baseball team and the Buffalo Bisons and most recently?
Of course he puts a spin on it, though. Unlike Jepsen, who stares longingly at her shirtless hunk of a neighbor, Cookie Monster is staring longingly at the chocolate chip, Snickerdoodle, and black-and-white cookies his co-workers brought to work.
“Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but you got cookie, so share it, maybe?”
It’s hard not to chuckle as Cookie Monster continues: “Me going off me rocker. Please feed me, Betty Crocker.” It is the same Cookie Monster we grew to love as children, and the way to his heart? Most definitely through his stomach.
It’s another attempt at bridging the gap between the old and the new – and it’s a success! Sesame Street posted “Share It Maybe” to YouTube two weeks ago, and it’s already been viewed 7,401,884 times. Check it out!
