Get Into the Holiday Musical Spirit!

By Misty Harris

As you gather together with your loved ones and friends for the holidays, bring us along! Our holiday musical programming on Classical 94.5 WNED will make all of your events even more festive.

Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m.
Candles Burning Brightly
- More than two thousand years ago, in the days of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, the religious life of the Jews was brought almost to a halt by the ancient Greeks. But rather than give in to the pressure to assimilate, a band of Jews who practiced their faith in secret returned to their holy city and rededicated the Temple. Their courageous act and its aftermath form the focus of Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Mindy Ratner and Bill Morelock offer a program which explores the customs and music of the holiday. A Merry, Inspiring, Memorable Gift for You

By Suzanne Kashuba

Mormon_Choir_2013

WNED has a gift for you,
It comes with our thanks for all you do.
It’s not wrapped and tied with a bow,
But if you tune in and listen you will know.
That it’s as special as can be,
And it leaves a joyful memory.

It comes from Rod Stewart, the Irish Rovers,
And even the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
From Chanticleer, Bach and the BPO,
On television and radio.

It’s the music of the season that warms a winter’s day,
So enjoy the festive sounds now coming your way!

By Misty Harris

With the holidays quickly approaching there's a lot to consider. Food, family, guests and traveling are always on the top of everyone’s lists. But what about the music? What do you listen to during your holiday gatherings? What can be heard in the background when everyone comes together to celebrate? We posed this question to WNED staffers and here is the fun list we came up with!

LiveWell: Healthy Lifestyles to Last the Holidays

By Guest Blogger Janet Hinkel

From Thanksgiving to Christmas I eat my favorite foods, rich, hearty, delicious and local – maple-sweetened pies, local apples and pears, the last of the kale and spinach from the fields, free-range meats that are lean and flavorful, squash in all shapes and sizes, organic heavy cream from New York dairy farmers, and steaming, fresh, whole grain bread from the small bakery around the corner.

I love late-harvest, holiday food; I dread the weight gain. What’s a food-loving, health-nut to do?

Making the List

By Misty L. Harris

When I think of the holiday season, I think of two things: great food (cookies especially) and great music. Yes, I’m one of those people…as soon as Thanksgiving ends, I pull out the holiday CD collection (I secretly consider myself the holiday DJ of the family). I fill my iPad with a wide variety of music ranging from soul, classical, to jazz and “let the good times roll.” My co-workers in my immediate area have the fortune or misfortune of listening to at least 10 different versions of “White Christmas” on a daily basis. I haven’t heard any complaints as of yet.

I’m Dreaming of a Stress-free Holiday

By Suzanne Kashuba

Ahhh … the holidays. Traditions sure have changed.

If Currier and Ives were alive today, would they illustrate the Black Friday crowd at Walmart instead of idyllic horse and carriage scenes?
