Bob Ross Lives On

By Kaitlyn Affuso

Bob Ross appeared on PBS’ “The Joy of Painting” for more than forty years, and within that television series, inspired viewers to paint and instructed them how to do so the “Bob Ross Way” in 30-minute TV shows. In addition, Ross wrote books and filmed video, which is where he made much of his income from, having used his paintings as donations to PBS studio stations.

Although Ross passed away just a year after the show stopped producing new shows in May 1995, PBS and YouTube still hold reruns of the TV series (watch a Bob Ross Remix of “Happy Little Clouds” here).

As one who had great pride in his passion for art and nature, Ross, although gone, still lives on, encouraging all to embrace the art of nature.

1. “We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

2. “Any time ya learn, ya gain.”

3. “Maybe in our world there lives a happy little tree over there.”

4. “People might look at you a bit funny, but it's okay. Artists are allowed to be a bit different.”

5. “The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”

6. “Trees cover up a multitude of sins.”

7. “We want happy paintings. Happy paintings. If you want sad things, watch the news.”

8. “We're gonna make some big decisions in our little world.”

9. “You can do anything you want to do. This is your world.”

10. “Water's like me. It's lazy... Boy, it always looks for the easiest way to do things.”
