This week’s “Way Back Wednesday” should touch people who were children of the 60s and those of the 90s. Shari Lewis, American ventriloquist, puppeteer and children’s television host, starred in a NET (National Educational Television) special that aired on WNED-TV in October of 1970.
The listing for the program reads: NET Children’s Special - Three Magical Tales with Shari Lewis. Miss Lewis and her lovable companion “Lamb Chop” host a fantasy trip into the fairytale world of “Till Eulenspiegel,” “The Swineherd” and “Valiant Hans.” Children of the 90s will best remember her for the PBS children’s series “Lamb Chop’s Play-Along.” Parents of 90s kids will probably best remember Lewis for teaching their children this song (nice Zubaz, Charlie Horse), which I know my younger brother and I sang incessantly on car rides and at any other opportune time.
